Kidnapping, Assault Suspect Apprehended In Maryland: Sheriff

A kidnapping suspect in Maryland who allegedly assaulted a victim in a quest to retrieve a cellphone password, set a vehicle on fire, and fired gunshots at her, has been apprehended, authorities announced.

Dijon Cornelle Blunt was arrested on a warrant for kidnapping by members of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Intervention Division, the agency announced on Monday, Aug. 15, following an investigation into a series of incidents in the region.

According to the warrant, on Monday, Aug. 8, deputies responded to an address in the 1000 Block of Glen Willow Drive in Capitol Heights for a reported domestic incident.

Blunt allegedly arrived unannounced and physically assaulted his victim in their apartment by striking them multiple times, he also allegedly pulled out a firearm and demanded the victim’s password to their cell phone.

The victim was able to escape from Blunt, leaving the apartment, police said.

The warrant further states, in another incident on or around April or May of 2022, Blunt allegedly shot at the victim's vehicle while they were driving, leaving a bullet hole in the driver's side door.

Officials said that the victim pulled over, where Blunt allegedly physically forced the victim out of the car and into his car.

Blunt then allegedly set the victim's vehicle on fire before fleeing the scene.

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, Blunt was arrested in the 1400 block of Capitol View Terrace in Hyattsville and charged with:

  • Kidnapping;
  • First-degree assault;
  • Using a firearm in the commission of a crime;
  • Second-degree assault.

No return court date has been announced.
